The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, was set up in 1961 in collaboration with the Government of India when the Father of Indian Space Program, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a few other public-spirited industrialists expressed the need to professionalize Indian management through teaching, training, research and institution building. According to The Economist, this premier management institution of India is also the “world’s toughest B-school to get into.” IIM A owes much of its reputation to a faculty that creates an environment of substantial academic freedom along with systems of rigorous teacher-appraisal by students. While most its research activities are internally driven, IIM A also undertakes commissioned projects from the likes of the Ford Foundation, UN, World Bank and Planning Commission of India.
Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship was set up by IIM A in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat and Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in India. The faculty, students and alumni of IIM A act as enablers to aspiring entrepreneurs through seed-funding, incubation, mentoring, training, knowledge dissemination and best practice research.
